As a private school, we offers a blueprint Education by grooming not only minds but also attaches a priceless worth to the acquisition of moral principles.
Like the sub-motto of the school which reads “we transform lead to goal” the founders of Mevick, late Sir Victor Ebai Tarkang and his dear wife Mrs. Tarkang Née Abunaw Margaret had as a goal to build a school typical of the Anglo-Saxon tradition where the children could be trained to acquire and maintain their culture in a predominantly francophone cultural environment like Yaoundé.
Today, Mevick is more than twenty years old and she continues to hold to this great vision. More than twenty years of great achievement in the academic life of the institution is worth commending. The excellent results scored at public examinations through out the years is a confirmation of the purpose for which the school was created.
Our greatest appeal is that parents, students and ex-students contribute to keep this dream of two persons by contributing to its existence.
The approval of Mevick by the GCE board as geology practical accommodation centre in addition to the already existing Food and nutrition practical accommodation centre, science practical accommodation centre and GCE accommodation centre for the written part, give the students more hope and they do not have to travel across town.
Mevick is situated at the heart of the city of Yaoundé in Found division, precisely at Etoug-By, Montee du Centre des handicapés in the Yaoundé 6th Sub-division.
In every country and age, men and women remain through life mostly what they became during their formative or school years. The characteristics they developed in the early years are rarely, if ever eradicated. Though everyone is agreed that the purpose of education is to form human beings but not all are agreed on what a human being is or on how to come about it. In contrast to many divergent views, stands the Mevickian view which considers the purpose of education fully: taking into consideration a whole person as a composite being, made up of body and soul.
Consequently, we are out to fight ignorance in all its shades, irresponsibility and immaturity. Our educational methods blend all the qualities in many emotional, psychological, intellectual, moral, spiritual and physical to forge individuals who can live in harmony with themselves and interact with others for the edification of their community and state.
Mevick is a mixed – lay private- day School with First and second cycles. This is an institution conceived strictly on Anglo-Saxon tradition, the college is founded on the motto: Work-Knowledge-Progress, since Knowledge is virtue and Ignorance vice and it is teleologically the outcome of hard work and in turn, the acquisition of Knowledge obligatorily brings progress.
Mevick offers a blueprint Education by grooming not only minds but also attaches a priceless worth to the acquisition of Moral principles. It takes after Sir Moran Robert an English educationist who says that education without character training or morality is like a car without brakes.
Mevick insists on moulding heads, hands, minds and hearts of those privileged to pass through her. This accounts for the fact that a commercial section is recently created in this institution in order to meet the quest for professionalism which is lacking in our country.
Consequently, every student has to take moral philosophy (Ethics) in Form Two. This goes beyond citizenship as a subject and instills into the students at the initial and awakening stage the fear of the Supreme Being and respect for his fellow man; no matter his religious leanings. Ethics trains the will so that it chooses what is good within conflicting dilemmatic options and also helps them to know the morality of every act they perform.
